Transformer substations and MV and HV switchyards, turnkey

We build the substation and the switchyard, fit the protection relays and set them — from design through to commissioning.

High-voltage switchyard — power transformer with radiators, bushings and gantries

What we do

Substations, switchyards and protection relays — each on its own, or all of it as a single job. In practice they usually go together: the station has to be connected to the network and the protection set for what it is there to protect.

Substation installation

Building transformer substations

Distribution and customer substations — packaged, indoor and pole-mounted. We handle the civil works, the technology and the connection into the network, and hand over the documentation the station needs to go live.

  • Packaged, indoor and pole-mounted substations
  • Installing the transformer and the MV and LV switchgear
  • Cable outgoing ways and the connection into the distribution network
  • Earthing, surge protection, metering
  • Testing, inspection and handover to the network operator

MV and HV protection relays

A relay does not just need fitting — it needs setting correctly and proving that it works. We take it from choosing the terminal through parameter settings based on the calculation to testing and test reports.

  • Settings based on the calculation and the network operator's requirements
  • Retrofitting protection in an existing panel without replacing the whole switchboard
  • Functional testing and verification of the tripping circuits
  • Connection to the control system and remote control
  • Records of the settings and the tests
Enquire about protection

MV panel retrofit including protection relays — we replaced the internal equipment of a panel in an existing switchboard and fitted a new protection relay. The panel went back into service without touching the rest of the switchgear.

High-voltage switchyard

Building MV and HV switchyards

A new switchyard, an upgrade or a rebuild while the site stays live. We build indoor MV switchgear rooms as well as outdoor switchyards up to 110 kV, including busbars, instrument transformers and auxiliary supplies.

  • Indoor MV switchgear rooms
  • Outdoor switchyards up to 110 kV
  • Rebuilds and extensions while the site stays live
  • Auxiliary supplies, DC systems and backup power
  • Links to the control centre and monitoring

Why give it to us

01

Our own qualified technicians

We build and commission with our own people. We do not hire a different company for every trade and leave you to coordinate them.

02

We also know the network it connects into

We build distribution networks up to 110 kV and local distribution systems ourselves. So we know what the new station will have to cope with in service.

03

Work without an outage

We can maintain equipment up to 35 kV using live-line working, so your customers keep their supply.

04

24/7 emergency cover

We respond to faults around the clock — outside working hours, at weekends and on public holidays.

How a job runs

01

Send us the brief

Drawings, a diagram, or just a description of the site and what the station has to supply.

02

Site visit

We check access, earthing and the connection conditions. This is often where the most money is saved.

03

Quotation with a date

You get a quotation with a clear scope and a delivery date.

04

Delivery

Civil works, technology, installation and setting of the protection.

05

Testing and handover

We test it, inspect it, hand over the documentation and put it into service.

Not sure what scope you need?

Give us a call and we will go through the brief together — from transformer rating to relay settings.

Enquiry

Send us the brief and we will quote

Drawings, a wiring diagram or a description of the site and the rating is enough. If you have none of those, just call.
